Children’s Ministry

God has blessed us with many children at Providence Church and we are so thankful for each of them!

You will see (and hear!) these little ones as they joyfully greet each other and gather with their families during worship. During the sermon, we offer nursery and classroom ministry for infants through 6th grade. While we strongly believe that parents have the Biblical responsibility to raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, we seek to supplement and support the parents as we teach the truths of the Gospel to each child.

What to Expect

When you arrive, we have a Children’s Ministry check-in table in the lobby where you can register your child for the appropriate class. This gives us a chance to introduce ourselves, determine which class might be best for your child, and show you their classroom. It also allows us to capture important information including who should be picking your child up, whether they have any medical conditions or allergies, etc. Our teachers are members of the church (often fellow parents) and each classroom is staffed by at least two people at all times. The current class structure is:

  • Nursery: 6 months – 3 years
  • Primary: 4 years old – 1st grade
  • Secondary: 2nd grade – 5th grade

How Do We Get Our Child to Class?

During the announcements portion of the service, there will be a general dismissal for children to go to their classes. Infants and toddlers can be taken directly to the nursery. The rest of the children will be greeted in the lobby by their teachers and then escorted to their classroom. Feel free to escort your child to the lobby to make sure they go to the correct class.

What Does a Children’s Ministry Class Look Like?

Classes include times of reading, Scripture memorization through our LAMP program, as well as games and activities. While the style of teaching varies greatly depending on the age of the child, all of our children are presented with the core truths and stories of God’s Word. Particular emphasis is given to each passage’s relationship to the Gospel.

More specifics about our LAMP scripture memory program can be read here.
